Aluminum oxide ceramic PCB is a kind of ceramic printed circuit board mainly using aluminum oxide as the main material. The main difference between it and the ordinary PCB board lies in the different materials. The aluminum oxide ceramic PCB adopts inorganic materials (aluminum oxide or aluminum nitride), while the ordinary PCB board adopts organic materials (FR4 fiberglass board).
AL2O3 ceramic PCB has the following characteristics:
- Good thermal stability: it can still maintain performance unchanged at high temperatures.
- Stable chemical properties: resistant to the erosion of organic solvents, acids, alkalis and other chemicals.
- High hardness: has relatively high hardness and good wear resistance.
- Good insulation performance: can effectively prevent short circuits and leakage in the circuit.
The manufacturing processes of aluminum oxide ceramic PCB include single-sintering multi-layer method and thick film multi-layer method. The simple process flow of the single-sintering multi-layer method is: stamping of ceramic blank → printing of conductive layer → laminating or printing of insulation layer → blanking of external shape → sintering → plating of precious metals; the simple process flow of the thick film multi-layer method is: stamping of ceramic blank → sintering → printing of conductive layer → sintering → printing of insulation layer → printing of conductive layer → sintering (operating back and forth according to the number of layers).
Due to the superior performance of aluminum oxide ceramic PCB, it is widely used in the circuit boards of power supplies and heating element parts in devices such as automotive engine control circuits, video recorders, VCDs, etc. In addition, it can also be used as thick film and thin film circuits and hybrid circuit boards for electronic equipment that requires high stability and high reliability.
